Johan A.J. Verreth (Belgian, 1952) received his M.Sc. Zoology at the University of Gent (Belgium) in 1974. During a series of assignments in Belgium, Venezuela and Colombia, he acquainted himself with Live food production, Fish Breeding, Water quality assessment and Pond Dynamics. Since1980 he has been employed by Wageningen University (The Netherlands) where he climbed the career system from junior scientist to professor. At present, Johan Verreth occupies the chair of Fish Culture and Fisheries and leads the Fish Culture and Fisheries Group at the same university. He has published many papers in the field of Larval fish nutrition, water quality management in aquacultural production systems and aquaculture development. He was co-founder and first president of the Dutch Society for Aquaculture. Since 1996 he has been a member of the Board of the European Aquaculture Society.
